Portland draws at Merlo Field

[ATTENDANCE WATCH] Despite its slow start, Portland continues to draw very well, attracting 3,410 fans -- Week 5's largest crowd -- for its 2-0 loss to No. 1 Stanford on Thursday night at Merlo Field.

The Pilots (4-4-1), who have led women's soccer in average attendance each of the last six years, are averaging 3,144 fans a game. Only BYU (3,738) has averaged more fans this season.

-- Sunday night might not seem the best time to hold a college game, but the South Bay derby between Stanford and Santa Clara at the Broncos' Buck Shaw Stadium drew 2,875 fans. The No. 1 Cardinal won, 2-0, for its sixth consecutive victory over Santa Clara.

-- One of the most impressive crowds of the week was 2,011 for New Mexico's game against Cal State Fullerton at the Lobo/Nike Invitational. The fans were treated to two overtime games on Friday. Fullerton edged the Lobos, 3-2, in the nightcap, while UC Riverside beat North Texas, 2-1, in the first game.
