Red Bulls suspend Marquez for Portland game

[MLS] The New York Red Bulls suspended Mexican star Rafa Marquez for Saturday night’s key match against for remarks critical of teammates after Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at home.

Marquez said most of his teammates were not at his level and called mistakes by American defender Tim Ream "infantile."

    It seems there is a lack of unity on this team. I blame the coaching staff. Marquez is a world class player and is trying to set a higher standard for this league.

    I have the greatest respect for Marquez's skill and ability; however, what he said is something that should be said to the players in question in the locker room. Throwing a younger player under the bus is not what one expects of a leader. Particularly a leader who was brought in to mentor young players like Ream. Rafa looked more bush league than MLS in this exchange. Apparently the higher standard he is trying to set for the league is one of blaming one's mates to so he is held blameless. Sad!
