[UCLA-WASHINGTON] Twenty-four hours after completing national team duty with Canada, Chelsea Stewart scored her firstgoal for UCLA, striking in the 79th minute to give the No. 2 Bruins a 1-0 win over Washington before 2,350 fans at Drake Stadium.

UCLA dominated the Pac-12 opener for both teams with a16-1 edge in shots, but could not score until Stewart, a transfer from Vanderbilt, scored on a low-liner into the box that made it past several Husky defenders before beating goalie Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann.

Stewart played in Canada’s game Saturday against the USA in Kansas City, Kan., but did not play Thursday night in Portland,Ore.

The other collegians on the Canada tour roster were Syracuse’s Tina Romagnuolo (who also scored on Friday), Alabama keeper Justine Bernier and Diamond Simpson (who will play at Wisconsin in 2012). JaclynSawicki plays in Canada for the University of Victoria.
