La Liga Roundup: Van Nistelrooy off to Real

La Marca reports that Real Madrid have agreed a fee of 14 million euros for Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Speculation across Europe is rife that the deal will close tomorrow, despite a hard-line stance by Sir Alex Ferguson and United officials that Ruud's transfer would require a hefty sum. The latest reports are that neither club would comment on the speculation. Providing Van Nistelrooy comes through a medical exam, the deal will be announced in Madrid tomorrow. The Spanish sports daily also claims Madrid have offered 33 million euros for Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Gianluca Zambrotta, but Juve apparently want 38 million. Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres, who had a sparkling World Cup for Spain, wants out of his contract, too. The club has reportedly turned down a 38 million euro offer from Inter Milan. In Barcelona, holding midfielder Edmilson, who was sorely missed by the Brazilians in Germany, has fully recovered from a knee operation that kept him out of the World Cup. Edmilson returned to training with the Spanish and European champions alongside new boy Eidur Gudjohnsen, joining the team for the first time since his 12 million euro move from Cheslea.
