Tar Heels continue mastery over Blue Devils

[NORTH CAROLINA-DUKE] For the first time ever, Duke came to Fetzer Field ranked higher than host North Carolina. But the No. 9 Tar Heels' mastery over the No. 3 Blue Devils continued as Kealia Ohai’s goal in the 88th minute lifted them to a 1-0 victory Thursday night before a crowd of 4,112 fans. Carolina has now won seven straight against Duke and improves to 34-2-1 all-time in the Tobacco Road series.

The UNC goal was set up when Duke was called for a hand ball about 35 yards away from the goal. Senior Courtney Jones sent a bending back into the box where Amber Brooks slid and redirected it across the frame to Ohai, who slipped to the ground but laying on her back was able to kick it between Duke goalkeeper’s Tara Campbell’s legs into the goal.

The goal by Ohai was the first the Blue Devils had allowed in more than 559 minutes. They came into the game with a 10-game unbeaten streak.

The loss was Duke's first of the season in ACC, where it holds a one-point lead on Carolina, which has a game in hand.
