Worst goal celebration ever

[VIDEO PICK] If taking your shirt off to celebrate a goal gets a yellow card, Marco Fabian and Alberto Medina of Chivas Guadalajara should have been shown a red for their routine after Fabian scored his second of three in a 5-2 win over Tecos last Saturday.

Fabian and Medina, who assisted on the goal, simulated an execution-style shooting. This in a country plagued by a drug war that has seen nearly 50,000 murders since 2006.

The Mexican press roundly chastised the performance, and a Chivas spokesman promised the players will be reprimanded: "We regret the celebration carried out by our players Marco Fabian and Alberto Medina … The players who participated in this celebration will be called to account because they are role model for children and youth of our country."

Wonderful goal...truly awful celebration. While I've seen and enjoyed some goal celebrations, I still really appreciate the players who score and just head back to the center circle --- eager go do it again.

In the first place, taking off one's shirt after scoring a goal should NOT be a cautionable offense; it is a traditional and valid celebration. The fact that it warrants a yellow card these days is just an example of postmodernist egalitarianism run wild, thanks to the schock in some conservative cultures after a certain US WNT member whipped her jersey off after winning a World Cup Final shootout. The practice of cautioning players after that celebration is an example of why we make fun of committee decisions. ยง Secondly, Fabian's celebration here is just tactless and silly. It is only really offensive to those who wish to be offended.

This is a bad one, but most are these days. Why do foreign players suck their thumb and pretend they are pregnant? How dumb is that? Just smile, wave to the fans and thank your teammates, and go back and score another one. That's all we want to see, not all this offensive nonsense.
And if your Landon Donovan, act like you enjoy scoring goals not like you just had a cyst removed.

The celebration is a little insensitive because of Mexico's current crime situation that is at an alarming height. There is a record amount of kidnappings and executions that this USA media is not really covering adequately. The whole Mexican country is in the middle of a huge drug war where our own Mexican president has sided with one of them. Kind of like Bush with the oil and weapons big heavy hitters. Anyway, that's why this celebration is so stupid but I completely agree with celebrating a goal by expressing it in the happiest way possible. That's what I have my youth teams do. Yellow card for taking your short off is just plain stupid. Goals are hard to come by and should be glorified with the best most creative celebration.
