South Carolina finds way to keep C-USA lead

[AROUND THE COUNTRY] South Carolina remained in first in Conference USA thanks to a 4-3 victory at FIU. The Panthers came back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits but South Carolina won freshman midfielder Braeden Troyer's goal with six minutes remaining in the game.

Kevin Stam, Mike Mangotic and Bradlee Baladez also tallied goals for the Gamecocks, who are 5-1-0 in conference play and lead UAB, a 3-2 winner over Marshall, by a half game.

"We came back and found a way to win the game," said South Carolina coach Mark Berson, who won his 449th career game. "Good teams find a way to win no matter what the fortunes of the game throw at them. Tonight we had a lead which was whittled away by a very good, hard fighting FIU team, and our team found a way to win in the end."

-- Davide Faga's penalty kick in the 73rd minute gave Jacksonville a 1-0 win over cross-town rival UNF. The Dolphins remained first in the Atlantic Sun standings with a 5-0-1 record.

-- Wake Forest scored the most goals in more than two years when it beat N.C. State, 5-2. Sophomore Luca Gimenez had two goals, and  freshmen Teddy Mullin and Sean Okoli had their first career goals.
