[UC SANTA BARBARA-UC RIVERSIDE] No. 15 Santa Barbara was swept for the first time by UC Riverside when the Highlanders won, 3-2, Saturday night before 4,972fans at Harder Stadium. The result snapped UCSB’s 10-game winning streak against UCR at home and dropped its record in the Big West to 2-4-0. The Gauchos, sixth in the seven-team conference, have notlost as many as four games in conference play since 2000.

Twice the Highlanders went ahead on goals by Richie Osborne and Jon-Paul Medina but both times UCSB equalized within four minutes, first from Luis Silva and the second time from Sam Garza.

The winning goal was scored by Cesar Diaz Pizarro from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute after Machael David was called for a foul in the area.

UCSB, which had a 20-7 edge in shots, was playing without starting defender Tim Pontius, who was suspended after picking upa red card violation at Cal Poly, and fellow defenders Mathew Glodack (head injury) and David (leg injury) had to leave Saturday’s game.
