[U.S. UNDER-17 MEN] The U.S. under-17 national team is off to France to face the host country, Peru and the Netherlands at the Val-de-Marne tournament after
taking second place at the Albir Garden Sports Cup in Spain, where it got outstanding performances from Wesley Wade (four goals) and Herbert Mejia-Flores and Connor Donovan, both all-tournament selections.
The Americans tied Mexico, 1-1, and the United Arab Emirates, 1-1, then beat Russia, 2-0, and a Valencia regional team, 5-0, in the resort town of L'Alfas del Pi on the Costa Brava.
Wesley Wade, one of five players from the New York Red Bulls academy program, led the U-17s with two goals against both Russia and the Valencia academy team.
Midfielder Herbert Mejia-Flores of McLean (Va.) Youth Soccer was named to the all-tournament after scoring the tying goal against the UAE and assisting on one of Wade's goals against Russia.
Defender Connor Donovan of NC Alliance joined Mejia-Flores on the all-tournament team.
