USA takes second in Spain

[U.S. UNDER-17 MEN] The U.S. under-17 national team is off to France to face the host country, Peru and the Netherlands at the Val-de-Marne tournament after taking second place at the Albir Garden Sports Cup in Spain, where it got outstanding performances from Wesley Wade (four goals) and Herbert Mejia-Flores and Connor Donovan, both all-tournament selections.

The Americans tied Mexico, 1-1, and the United Arab Emirates, 1-1, then beat Russia, 2-0, and a Valencia regional team, 5-0, in the resort town of L'Alfas del Pi on the Costa Brava.

Wesley Wade, one of five players from the New York Red Bulls academy program, led the U-17s with two goals against both Russia and the Valencia academy team.

Midfielder Herbert Mejia-Flores of McLean (Va.) Youth Soccer was named to the all-tournament after scoring the tying goal against the UAE and assisting on one of Wade's goals against Russia.

Defender Connor Donovan of NC Alliance joined Mejia-Flores on the all-tournament team.

    Forgot to mention that Wesley Wade won the Golden Boot for the Tournament in Spain. Let's give our kids credit when due! When was the last time an American has won the Golden Boot at an international tournament?
