Louisville reaches final for first time

[BIG EAST] Louisville got goals from Christine Exeter and Katie McDonald and beat defending national champion Notre Dame, 2-1, to win its eighth straight game and advance to the Big East final for the first time. The Cardinals will play host West Virginia, a 5-1 winner over Georgetown.

Exeter, the Big East Offensive Player of the Year, scored her 14th goal just three minutes into the game and McDonald followed when she knocked home a throw-in from the corner.

Notre Dame cut the deficit to 2-1 on Adriana Leon's goal in the 72nd minute and peppered Louisville goalkeeper Chloe Kiefer with 12 shots in the second half but couldn't get the equalizer.

West Virginia came out strong to start the second half when Meghan Lewis scored in the 49th minute to break a 1-1 tie. The Mountaineers added goals from Frances Silva, Kate Schwindel and Chelsey Corroto to complete the rout. The five goals match WVU’s highest output set last weekend against Seton Hall.

Senior Blake Miller opened the scoring with her team-leading ninth goal of the season to give WVU a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. The Hoyas responded with a goal from Samantha Baker in the 28th minute.
