Caps add Canadian U-17 captain as homegrown player

[MLS] The Vancouver Whitecaps signed their fifth homegrown player when they promoted Bryce Alderson, who captained Canada at the 2011 Under-17 World Cup, from their residency program in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy this season.

"Bryce is an intelligent, gifted player who has already played at a very high level in his young career," said Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie. "We're excited to add another young Canadian talent to our MLS squad."

Other homegrown players are American goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre, Canadian midfielders Philippe Davies and Russell Teibert and Tanzanian midfielder Nizar Khalfan.
