Bayern posts a profit once again

Bayern Munich posted a $1.8 million profit for the 2010/2011 season despite failing to win any trophies and a tough financial climate. The amount compared to a $3.9 million profit the previous season.

“Bayern is financially well positioned for the future,” said board director Karl Hopfner. "Despite a difficult starting position -- I remind you that we had no notable sporting success last season and faced an ongoing financial and euro crisis -- we again recorded a profit. We have also more than met UEFA’s financial fair play criteria.”

The German record champions posted a turnover of $393 million euros compared to $420 million in 2009/2010 with sponsoring and marketing revenues almost unchanged at $111 million. Merchandise revenues grew to $59 million, up from $53 million last season.

The club is still paying for the construction of it Allianz Arena stadium that club officials expecting to have an additional $40 million available once it is paid off in less than 10 years.
