Uruguay coach's wife attacked with acid

Silva Martinez, the wife of Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez, was attacked by two men with a corrosive liquid that burned her face and arms on Saturday in Montevideo.

Police said the two men threw the liquid at her as they passed by on a motorcycle. Poilce have not uncovered any clear motive or detained any suspects in the attack Saturday on 61-year-old Martinez.

Authorities recently released a former female employee of Tabarez who was arrested in December for allegedly swindling $500,000 from the coach. The employee's lawyer was quoted by a local newspaper as saying she had nothing to do with Saturday's attack.

Tabarez guided Uruguay to the 2010 World Cup semifinals and the 2011 Copa America title.
