Stanford returns to final with 3-0 win

[WOMEN'S COLLEGE CUP] Stanford got goals from Chioma Ubogagu, Alina Garciamendez and Kristy Zurmuhlen and cruised into the final of the Women's College Cup for the third year in a row with a 3-0 win over Florida State.

Ubogagu scored one goal and set up another with a three-minute span in the first half to spark the Cardinal, who will play Duke in the final on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (TV: ESPNU, ESPN3).

Ubogagu's goal in the 22nd minute finished off a counterattack that began when Mariah Nogueira headed the ball upfield to Ubogagu, who teamed up with Teresa Noyola on a two-on-one breakaway that ended when the freshman unleashed a shot that deflected off Seminole goalkeeper Kelsey Wys' left left and between her legs into the goal.

Zurmuhlen followed in the 24th and Garciamendez scored her first goal of the season, on a header in the 64th.

Two minutes later, Lindsay Taylor sent a ball down the left wing that found Ubogagu on the run again. Nearly at the end line, she pushed the ball to the top of the six-yard box, where Zurmuhlen met it with a sliding stab for a 2-0 lead.

A series of saves by goalkeeper Emily Oliver, the national leader with a 0.24 goals-against average, kept Florida State off the scoreboard.

The Cardinal iced the victory when sub Madeleine Thompson sent a long ball to Garciamendez, who, despite sandwiched between two defenders, headed the ball over Wys and under the crossbar.
