Martin sets record as Ohio Wesleyan triumphs

[NCAA DIVISION III MEN] Jay Martin became the winningest men's coach in NCAA history as he picked up his 608th career win in Ohio Wesleyan's 2-1 win over Calvin in the NCAA Division III men's final on Saturday night at the Blossom Soccer Complex in San Antonio, Texas.

The Battling Bishops, who earned the program's second national title, got goals from Travis Wall and Paolo Bucci.

Martin, whose career record now stands at 608-115-49, surpassed Joe Bean, who previously held the record after compiling 607 wins from 1962-2006 at Quinnipiac, Bridgeport and Wheaton (Ill.).

"It means I'm old, it means I've been coaching a long time, it means that there have been great players at Ohio Wesleyan over the 35 years I've been here," said Martin, in his 35th season with the Battling Bishops. "I'm proud that I've done something that no one else has, and that's kind of cool."
