[VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS] The USA-Brazil U-17 match to decide the Nike International Friendlies in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., featured four goals -- all the first half --
and plenty of action. For all the highlights ...
Keep hearing how American soccer is so much behind the rest of the world. How are the U17's able to beat Brazil?
America's U17 is comprised of the best and brightest coming out of academies, club and youth soccer systems. Meanwhile in Brazil the top level U17 players are already playing in Europe, having been scouted and signed by the big leagues. So the U17s we faced are not the top level players like our squad. Comparing Apples to Oranges I fear.
It is a very promising and we wish them much great success. However,KG point is true and valid. Many of the top players from other countries do not participate in these matches for various reasons. Would a promising top prospect take the risk or his club take the risk of injuries? Not likely, however well done by the USA boys on still beating top quality playera and opponents.
Do you realize the significance of this! We beat Brazil!
The USA beat a national team from Brazil! Historically, Brazil has produced top world-class players for decades. Brazilians tell us that their kids are born with a soccer ball, and most follow a rigorous, life-long academy training program that builds on a childhood filled with daily Brazilian street-soccer. Therefore, ANY official Brazilian team is top-level, world-class team, more so a national squad!
This is a historic accomplishment for these kids! Make no mistake: their lives are infinitely better for this, and they may have altered the course of US Soccer for generations to come.
Way to go, guys!
Can't really tell from the highlight clip, but two US goals appear offside. Anyone see the whole match?
That's false (nonsense) on all the best Brazilian U17's being in Europe. There are not that many and if they were selected for the Brazilian U17 team, they would be there.
oh boy...people. there are rules against transferring underage players for one so no, not all U-17 Brazilian players are in Europe. Second, if a player is called up he MUST be made available. If he doesn't play, he can't play for his club. SO he can forgo pay from club and country or just take the call up and get paid from country. Everyone takes the extra money. Also, yes, someone please compile and post a list of players missing. This is a good win for the US. One they have done before at other levels. Brazil is still better but we are getting much more competitive. Good job.
This was a good overall performance in this tournament. In large part due to the brilliant, creative, Hispanic style of play from Flores. Without him it would have been a different outcome. Brazil did not have all of its U17's. It is true that if they are called up they must go. This is the reason that Brazil does not call its best players for this type of tournament. They are not scared to give new talent the opportunity and are looking to get as many of its national pool players professional contracts as possible. This is why Neymar did not participate in the U20 World Cup. He did play in the qualifiers for South America. He did not get called for a reason. This is an excellent strategy from Brazil and is why they will continue to be a top 5 for years to come.
Stuper, why don't you explain why K G statement is not accurate. Do you have proof of your statement or are you being completely bias again?
