Brad Guzan, the 27-year-old American goalkeeper who left MLS in 2008 for the English Premier League but had made only one EPL appearance before replacing injured Aston Villa keeper Shay Given last weekend against Manchester United, looks set to see more action.
Given will be out for a month after tearing his left hamstring after giving up the goal in the 1-0 loss to Man U. "it is disappointing to lose Shay in such circumstances but … we have total faith in Brad who … can be proud of the way he stepped in when Shay had to come off," said Villa coach Alex McLeish.
Guzan has played in the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup, but prior to last Saturday his only EPL appearance came when countryman Brad Friedel was red carded in a 5-0 loss to Liverpool in the 2008-09 season.
(Guzan was backup to Tim Howard on the USA's 2010 World Cup roster and earned his last of 19 caps in 2010.)
