'Fox Soccer Report,' live from freezing Winnipeg

John Doyle traveled to freezing Winnipeg to visit the studios of the “Fox Soccer Report," Fox Soccer's nightly soccer news show. It's a very unassuming
operation. Bobby McMahon, the show's resident pundit, picked Doyle up at the airport and took him to the small studios on a corner of the 30th floor of the
CanWest Plaza, the tallest building in Winnipeg.
It's here in these studios of Winnipeg television station CKND-TV that the show is produced nightly. The hosts are Derek Taylor, Michelle Lissel, Eoin O’Callaghan and Asa Rehman, along with McMahon, a native of Scotland who was writing a weekly column about soccer for the Winnipeg Sun when he got the job as the show's resident analyst 10 years ago.
The hosts are on site, but the director, Joe Pascucci, works out of Calgary, where the cameras are operated by remote control.
Why Winnipeg?
CKND-TV is owned by CanWest Global, which won the right to launch six sports channels, considered "specialty digital channels," in 2000. Canadian regulations require that these channels contain 15 per
cent Canadian content, so it only made sense to use the CKND-TV studios.
