Liverpool players are supporting their teammate, Uruguayan star Luis Suarez, who will appeal his eight-game ban for racially insulting Manchester
United’s Patrice Evra.
Before Wednesday’s match at Wigan, Liverpool players warmed up wearing white T-shirts featuring Suarez’s
picture and his number 7.
“Luis Suarez is our teammate and our friend and as a group of players we are shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA,” they said
in a joint statement. “We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that. We know he is not racist … we have lived, trained and played with Luis for almost 12 months and we
don’t recognize the way he has been portrayed.”
Pending the appeal, Suarez started against Wigan and earned a penalty that teammate Charlie
Adam missed. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
