How quickly things turn in the world of post-scandal Italian soccer. Gianluigi Buffon is not leaving Juventus, if you believe his agent, and neither are Pavel Nedved or Alessandro Del Piero. But don't
expect to see David Trezeguet, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Patrick Vieira, Emerson, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta or Lilian Thuram playing for the bianconeri next season, says Italian news service ANSA.
The most surprising news is that Buffon, certainly one of if not the best goalkeeper in the world, has decided to stick it out in Serie B. "Gianluigi is staying at Juventus. He is willing to play in
Serie B," Buffon's agent Silvano Martina said today. "It is a division he has never won and he wants to try to do this." That unexpected boost for Juventus was followed by the news that both Nedved
and Del Piero are likely to end their careers with the relegated club. Meanwhile, it's been reported numerous times that Real Madrid seek a three-player package deal containing Italy captain
Cannavaro, left-back Zambrotta, and midfield general Emerson, but reports say Barcelona swooped in to secure the service of both Zambrotta and Thuram late today. ANSA adds that Milan rival Inter is
looking to sign Sweden striker Ibrahimovic and former Arsenal midfielder Vieira. None of the deals are likely to go through until the appeals process for the match-fixing scandal ends next week.
