[SAN FRANCISCO] Jim Millinder, who holds the distinction of having played on the same teams as Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruyff, has been hired as San Francisco’s new women’s head coach.

Millinder was a two-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year at USC, where he coached for 11 seasons. He was a coach at the South Bay Force in Southern California the last four years and was elevated tothe girls director of coaching for 2010-11.

He spent 11 seasons at USC, where he guided The Women of Troy to a 135-70-21 record, highlighted by eight appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Millinder also was the women’s coach at Loyola Marymount and El Camino College, a California junior college power.

He was a midfielder on the NASL’s New York Cosmos (1978),Los Angeles Aztecs (1979), Tulsa Roughnecks (1980) and Fort Lauderdale Strikers (1981-82).

Millinder takes over a Dons program coming off a 6-14-0 season, including a 2-6-0 slate in theWCC. The Dons return three All-WCC performers. San Francisco’s last winning season came in 2004 (10-7-3) and its only winning league slate was in 1997 (5-2-0).
