[AWARDS] Teresa Noyola became the third Stanford in three years to win the MissouriAthletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, edging teammate Lindsay Taylor, the runner-up, and Penn State sophomore MayaHayes.
Noyola, a hometown girl who grew up in Palo Alto but plays for Mexico, followed former teammates Kelley O’Hara (2009) and
Noyola and Taylor, the 2011 Soccer America Player of the Year, were part of a Stanford senior class that went 95-4-4 over its four years, including53-0-1 at home, and reached the NCAA College Cup four times, reaching three consecutive finals.
In the final, Noyola provided the winning goal to beat Duke, 1-0, and provide Stanford withits first national championship.
She finished the 2011 season with nine goals and 15 assists and totaled 31 goals and 40 assists for 102 career points, placing her ninth of theCardinal’s all-time points list.
With the triple award to Stanford, and especially with an award to a mid-field play maker, perhaps the rest of the nation will realize that the future of Women’s College Soccer is the possession game.Once they do, the USWNT will be assured of a steady supply of the one thing it lacks – – great play-makers.
