Friedel's Spurs moves closer to the top

[AMERICANS ABROAD] With Brad Friedel in goal as usual, Tottenham beat Everton, 2-0, in their makeup game to move into second place in the English Premier League, tied with Manchester United, just three points behind Manchester City after 20 games. The meeting was the sixth between Friedel and fellow American Tim Howard, and Friedel hasn't lost yet to the Everton keeper. Landon Donovan picked up a yellow card in his first EPL start since returning to Everton.

Friedel did not have to make a save as Spurs won on goals by Aaron Lennon and Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

In the League Championship, Jonathan Spector started for Birmingham City in its 2-1 win over Ipswich Town that kept the Blues unbeaten at home this season.

Premier League positions, when tied on equal points, are determined by goal difference and mot the number of US born players. Sad to point out the Spurs are in third place place, not second as the article above incorrectly states.

He is with Everton. Paul has been working too hard and lost his concentration for a moment.
