David Beckham‘s family priorities were a motivating factor in his decision to stay with the Los Angeles Galaxy rather than join Paris St. Germain.

“They have the final answer — simple as that,” Beckham said half-jokingly in a Google+ Q&A streamed live on YouTube on Thursday. “Our priorities are all about our children. But the growth of the game is growing. To see when I first arrived there was 12 teams in the league and now there are 19. There are stadiums being built around America solely for soccer andthat’s the exciting part of why I wanted to stay. It was all about what I felt for the future of the game in the U.S. and where my family was happiest. My family are happiest here in the moment. We love living in LA and living in America. We’ve adapted to the culture and adapted to everything this country has and we’ve enjoyed that. I’m going to continue to enjoy playingsoccer here and my family will continue to enjoy it.”

He added that to leave what he started here in MLS would have been “disappointing.”
