MLS: D.C. United sacks Ray Hudson

D.C. United has declined to exercise the contract option for Coach Ray Hudson, who has coached the team the past two seasons.

Hudson arrived in D.C. United after the guiding the now defunct Miami Fusion to the MLS's best regular-season record in 2001. The Fusion lost to San Jose in the semifinals and the franchise folded.

D.C. United failed to reach the playoffs in 2002, Hudson's first year, coming up short for the third straight season after compiling a 9-14-5 win-loss-tie record. D.C. United reached the playoffs in 2003 on a 10-11-9 record and lost to Chicago in the quarterfinals.

D.C. United has not indicated who will replace Hudson.
