Texan teen Garza debuts in Libertadores Cup

Victor Garza, a 19-year-old winger from McAllen, Texas, made his debut with Tigres of Mexico on Thursday night, coming off the bench in its 2-2 tie with Union Espanola in the Libertadores Cup. The tie eliminated Tigres as it had lost the first leg of the qualification series, 1-0.

U.S. international Jonathan Bornstein started for Tigres, while a third American, Juan Pablo Ocegueda, was on the bench. Tigres, winner of the 2011 Torneo Apertura in Mexico, used mostly reserves in the Libertadores Cup matches.

Garza had been playing for Tigres' U-20s along with several other Americans. He had previously spent time in the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla.
