German Bundesliga on track to set attendance record

Average attendances of more than 44,000 per game for the first half of the 2011-12 season have the German Bundesliga on track to set a new record, the German soccer league (DFL) said on Tuesday.

Last season's record mark of 42,101 people per league game, which makes it the top league in the world by attendance, could be surpassed. German Bundesliga attendances have risen from the previous year in the last seven seasons.

“These figures are proof of the Bundesliga’s attractiveness which inspires fans with top class performances and tension like few other leagues,” DFL Chief executive Christian Seifert said in a statement.
