Doniak improving a week after hit-and-run

[TEXAS] Texas senior Kylie Doniak was showing signs of improvement Thursday almost a week after being hit by a suspected drunk driver late at night in downtown Austin.

Doniak, who completed her eligibility last fall, was still battling brain swelling and broken bones, but her family said she has opened her eyes and is moving her fingers. Surgery on her leg is needed.

Nicholas Colunga, 22, was arrested on one count of intoxication assault and two counts of failure to stop and render aid. He was finally chased down by a passer-by on a motorcycle and tied up with a bystander's belt until police arrived.

Doniak was second in scoring for the Longhorns as a senior after leading them in 2009 and 2010. She started in all 20 matches played as a true freshman in the midfield in 2008.

Older sister Alyssa played at UC Santa Barbara, and her younger sister, Makenzie, is considered one of the top high school players in the country and will play at Virginia.
