Zips land five U-17 World Cup players

[AKRON] Caleb Porter boosted his reputation as one of the nation's top recruiters, signing four members of the 2011 U.S Under-17 World Cup team -- Alfred Koroma, Fernando Pina, Dillon Serna and Andrew Souders. Also joining the Zips is winger Omari Morris, who represented Canada at the U-17 World Cup.

"Over the past five years," said Porter, "we have been fortunate that many of the top players in the country have chosen Akron and without question, this is one of the finest recruiting classes we have ever assembled. I know their impact will be felt immediately and, with a very strong core group of returning players, we expect to continue competing for national championships in the years to come."

Koroma, who now plays for Solar Chelsea in the Dallas area, is the big prize. He scored two goals in four games at the U-17 World Cup.

Souders (Columbus Crew), Pina (Houston Dynamo) and Serna (Colorado Rapids) are all MLS academy products. While all three players played in CONCACAF qualifying, none saw action in the U-17 finals in Mexico.

Matt Foldesy, the 2011 Ohio High School Boys Division I Player of the Year, rounds out the 2012 freshman class.
