[VIRGINIA] U.S. under-17 national team defender Zachary Carroll and three MLS academy products are among the players
headed to Virginia in the fall.
Carroll, a 6-foot-3 defender from Grand Blanc, Mich., was named Michigan's 2011 Mr. Soccer.
Midfielder Brian
James is one of the top players in Florida, while Shane O'Neill (Colorado Rapids), Marcus Salandy-Defour (D.C.
United) and Scott Thomsen (New York Red Bulls) all play for MLS academy teams.
Todd Wharton from the Richmond Strikers academy rounds out of the Cavs' incoming class.
"We believe that this class is very talented -- on paper it
looks fantastic," Coach George Gelnovatch said. "I also happen to know that there is more to winning and having a great team than just talent. We will work
diligently with these signees, as well as our current players, on the intangible things that make great teams."
