MLS Reserve League returns

[DATEBOOK] Major League Soccer will again operate its Reserve League in 2012. season. The 19 clubs will be divided into three conferences and play 10 matches for a total of 95 Reserve League games. The league will give clubs an opportunity to use players who aren't getting first-team minutes, trialists and notably academy players whose amateur eligibility won't be jeopardized by playing alongside older pros.

Teams in the six-team Central and Western conferences will face each conference opponent twice, once home and once away. Teams in the seven-team Eastern Conference will play an unbalanced schedule, facing four of their conference opponents twice, home and away, one additional conference opponent at home, and the remaining club once on the road. Reserve teams can also play other opponents in non-league games.

    Great news. I am happy to see MLS found some loose change at the bottom of its pockets to re-fund this league. Very important piece to a successful development model.

    It would be nice to see these reserve teams play after the scheduled MLS contest.
