Five-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta, after three years of playing in the USA, is returning to the Swedish league, where she will play for Tyreso.

The Braziliansuperstar played five seasons for Sweden’s Umea before joining the Los Angeles Sol in Women’s Professional Soccer’s (WPS) inaugural season of 2009. The Sol folded after WPS’s first season and Martamoved to Northern California’s Gold Pride, which she led to the 2010 WPS title. But the Gold Pride folded after its title win and Marta moved to Western New York Flash, which she helped to the 2011WPS crown.

The WPS, however, has suspended operations, prompting the 26-year-old’s return to Sweden.

“The goal is to win the Swedish league this year and play ChampionsLeague next season,” Marta said. “I enjoy being in Sweden. It is my second home, and I have very good memories from here.”

Tyreso, which finished fourth in the league lastyear, also signed Swedes Caroline Seger, Lisa Dahlkvist, Linda Sembrant, and Spaniard Veronica Boquete, who played for the WPS’s Philadelphia last season.
