Klinsmann sets roster for Italy clash

[USA MEN] Coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called in a 21-man roster with 17 foreign-based and four MLS players for the USA's friendly against Italy in Genoa on Feb. 29 (TV: 2:45 pm ET, ESPN, ESPN3.com, Galavision).

The MLS contingent is comprised of attackers Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle, defender Geoff Cameron, and goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Mexico-based midfielder Jose Torres, who started for the USA in Klinsmann's first three games at the U.S. helm, makes his first return to the U.S. squad since suffering a foot injury while playing for his club, Pachuca, last September.

“We’re happy to have Jose back," Klinsmann told The MNT Blog. "He’s a very creative player, very calm on the ball, and a great passer. He brings a different dimension in the midfield."

The other 16 foreign-based players play in seven different European leagues, including Italy's Serie A, where defensive midfielder Michael Bradley plays for Chievo.

The squad includes one player without a U.S. cap: The Borussia Dortmund-based Terrence Boyd, a 21-year-old striker who was raised in Germany and has played for the USA at the U-20 level.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).

Carlos Bocanegra (Glasgow Rangers), Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Timmy Chandler (FC Nuremberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaelland), Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City).

MIDFIELDERS (6): Michael Bradley (Chievo Verona), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Jose Torres (Pachuca), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim).

FORWARDS (5): Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Terrence Boyd (Borussia Dortmund), Edson Buddle (LA Galaxy), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy).

Agudelo is with the u-23 Olympic team which also is going to be playing... so is Brek Shea and Alfredo Morales... and Davies hasn't really been playing so he isn't likely ready...and based on his play last year in MLS he is NOT fully back to his pre injury self.

The player that is included here that I find puzzling is Cameron... he was Ejected in the last match against Panama...a RED CARD... so other than bringing him into act as a sparring partner, I don't see why he's there...Yellows can be papered over, but Friendly or Not...a RED is a Suspension for the next match... it would be helpful if SOMEBODY at Soccer America explained this or at least made mention of it and asked the damned question!! ... Dear SoccerAmerica, when you give us a list of players on any soccer team roster, please do not put the defensive and offensive midfielders together under the same label " midfielders ", as a result I never know who is an offensive player or a defensive player and for me it makes a huge difference. Because a defensive midfielders are a defenders under a different label, until 1980's they called them "forstopper". Or to be more specific, the last central defender was called a " stopper" and in front of him was a "forstopper", and "forstopper" was listed as a defender and now they list "forstopper" as a modfielder.

Players can be ejected in a friendly and play the next game, since is not a official game the player doesn't carry any penalty, that is the reason the coach can change the whole team if needed during that game because it's just a friendly!
