Young Stockton star killed at house party

[OBITUARY] Arturo Marquez Jr., a star for several Stockton (Calif.) area teams, including Monarcas FC Aztec Warriors, one of the nation's top-ranked under-14 boys teams, was gunned down at a house party late Friday night in his hometown of Stockton. Marquez, 14, had just been invited to a camp being organized by the San Jose Earthquakes for young prospects from Northern California.

According to published reports, Marquez attempted to run when shots were fired and was shot in the upper body. Initial interviews by police did not turn up any suspects.

Monarcas FC had won the U.S. Club Soccer regional title for U-13 boys in 2011.

According to ESPN Rise, he was now playing for Stockton Storm, where he was spotted by an Earthquakes coach.
