Yanks advance in UEFA Women's Champions League

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Three Americans moved into the semifinals of the UEFA Women's Champions League with wins. Goalie Alyssa Naeher earned her second shutout and Alex Singer also started for German club 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in its 3-0 win at Russia's Rossiyanka to advance, 5-0, on aggregate. Gina Lewandowski started for 1. FFC Frankfurt in its 3-0 win over Malmo that gave it a 4-0 series victory.

Christen Press had several close chances for FC Gothenburg, but it could only muster a last-minute goal for a 1-0 win over the Arsenal Ladies that was not enough to make up for its 3-1 loss in London. Arsenal keeper Emma Byrne turned Press' shot off the woodwork after Sara Linden had hit the crossbar. Former Georgetown star Ingrid Wells also started for the Swedish club.

Kia McNeill, Yael Averbuch and Leigh Ann Robinson all started for Rossiyanka in a losing effort.

Defending champion Lyon completed the final four with its second 4-0 win over Brondby, this time in Denmark.

The semifinals will be played April 14-15 and 21-22 and the final will take place at the Olympiastadion in Munich on May 17. The semifinal pairings: Lyon vs. 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, Arsenal Ladies vs. 1. FFC Frankfurt.
