[OLYMPIC DRAW] Host Great Britain will face Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates and Senegal in group play in the 2012 Olympic men's soccer competition. The other
top seeds besides Team GB are Brazil, Spain and Mexico.
Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce says he will travel to see David Beckham in MLS action for the Los Angeles Galaxy before making a decision on whether to include him as one of three overage players.
"[I will pick] solely on merit.
It's the only way any manager picks a squad or a team and I will do exactly the same," said Pearce. "I will know a bit more when I go to the States to see what form [Beckham] is in, he's made the
shortlist and he has been a great ambassador for this country and the Olympics, but that's no recommendation that he will get in the squad and that's fair and square across the board for all
players."
Teams are allowed three overage players to supplement their under-23 roster. They will carry 18 players.
Brazil, which has never won the competition, will be in
Group C along with Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand.
Mexico will face South Korea, Gabon and Switzerland in Group B, while Spain will play Japan, Honduras and Morocco in Group D.
Soccer will be played at six venues: City of Coventry Stadium, (Coventry); Hampden Park (Glasgow); Millennium Stadium (Cardiff); Old Trafford (Manchester); St James' Park (Newcastle); Wembley
Stadium.
