Pep Guardiola’s assistant Tito Vilanova will be Barcelona’s head coach next season.

Vilanova came through the Barcelona ranks with Guardiola and took up his current rolein 2008, having also worked with Guardiola for Barcelona’s B team. “We’ve always said that if the team needs players, we look at home first,” Sporting director Andoni Zubizarretasaid. “Who do we have here at home? Tito.”

Guardiola said: “I think the club has taken the best decision possible. He is more than capable. The players know him. He will make few changes.He will give the club and these players something that I thought I could no longer give.”

Vilanova played with Guardiola in Barca’s youth program but never broke into the first team,playing for two years with Barcelona B. After a lower-division playing career with several clubs, he worked as technical director at Tarrassa before becoming Guardiola’s assistant with BarcelonaB.
