USA looks to get revenge

[CONCACAF UNDER-17 CHAMPIONSHIP] Two years ago, the USA outscored its opponents, 38-0, but did not advance to the 2010 Under-17 Women's World Cup after being ousted by Canada in a shootout in the semifinals of Concacaf qualifying. The Americans will get a chance for revenge when they play in the 2012 Concacaf Under-17 Championship that begins Thursday with a game against Bahamas at Guatemala City's Estadio Cementos Progreso.

The U.S. U-17s are the favored, having compiled a 4-0-2 record in international matches while playing mostly against older competition. They have allowed just one goal so far this year, which came in a 1-1 draw with the England U-19s in March.

They will be shooting for one of three berths up for grabs for the 2012 Under-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan.

(Only two berths -- the semifinals were rewarded

Coach Albertin Montoya, who led FC Gold Pride to the 2010 WPS title, will be coaching in his first qualifying tournament. He represented the USA in the first-ever U-17 World Cup in Italy in 1991 (previously it was a U-16 tournament).
