USA cruises into semifinals

[CONCACAF UNDER-17 WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP] Summer Green scored her sixth goal in two games and added two assists as the USA beat Trinidad & Tobago, 5-0, in its second game at the Concacaf Under-17 Women's Championship in Guatemala City. The Americans broke open the game with a four-goal second half to clinch a berth in the semifinals. For video highlights of the win ...

Emily Bruder and Joanna Boyles each had a goal and assist, while Andi Sullivan and Sarah Robinson also scored.

After having a 52-1 edge in shots in the 10-0 win over Bahamas, the USA had a tougher time breaking down T&T, finishing with a 20-5 advantage in shots.

“We have to put the ball away when we have our opportunities," said Coach Albertin Montoya. "I thought in the first half we could have easily been up 4-0 or 5-0 and that would have made it a much easier game for us. Instead, we had to fight through it, which also helps us, as it builds some character. Trinidad made it difficult for us, but we have to learn to put teams away.”

Montoya was pleased with the play of Boyles off the bench.

“It’s important not only to rest some of our starters," he said, "but to give some of those other players some confidence. Look at Jo Boyles coming in and having an assist and a goal and having an immediate impact on the game. That’s definitely going to help with her confidence moving forward in this tournament."

The U.S. U-17s finish Group B play against Mexico on Monday. The USA and Mexico are through to the semifinals. The winner of Monday's game will claim first place in the group.

The winners of the semifinals and the third-place match will qualify for the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan later this year.

Given the short amount of time Jo Boyles was allowed to play, she was REMARKABLE!!!!
