Breakers win home-opener before sellout crowd

[WPSL ELITE] The Boston Breakers, formerly of Women's Professional Soccer, won their WPSL Elite home opener, 4-1, over FC Indiana before a standing-room-only crowd of 2,312 fans at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass.

Boston got two goals from Australian international Kyah Simon, making her debut, and one each from fellow Australian Tameka Butt and second-year Breaker Katie Schoepfer.

"We didn't know what we were going to expect tonight with FC Indiana, so we had to be prepared for anything," captain Leslie Osborne said. "But I think the most exciting thing is the new stadium, a new city, and a great sellout crowd that we heard the whole game. Just to be back in a Breakers uniform and playing again in front of our fans and to get a win for them and score some goals, it's a good day."

After Week 2, the Breakers and New York Fury lead the league with 2-0-0 records.

Merritt Mathias fed Brittany Taylor for the lone goal of the match as the Fury defeated the Western New York Flash, 1-0. The star of the game was Fury goalkeeper Michelle Betos, who made 11 saves.
