Angel enjoys Red Bull return

Former Red Bulls captain Juan Pablo Angel made his first visit to Red Bull Arena since his departure following the 2010 season and scored Chivas USA's goal in the 1-1 tie.

During player introductions, Red Bulls fans gave Angel, now Chivas’ captain, a loud cheer, and the fans sitting in the supporters’ section paraded a banner that said “Gracias Juan Pablo Siempre New York," reports Frank Giase.

In honor of Angel, when the clock reached 9:00 (Angel wore No. 9), the fans sang a one-minute tribute to him. They might have inspired Angel, who slammed a shot off the base of the left post in the 25th minute and was active throughout the game.

Two minutes into the second half brought out the vintage Angel, who scored a franchise-record 19 goals in 2007 and left following the 2010 season as the Red Bulls all-time goal scorer with 62 in all competitions. Blair Gavin took a corner kick from the right that was headed into the center of the box by Rauwshan McKenzie. Angel turned away from Red Bulls defender Heath Pearce and hit a spinning volley into the net.
