Schoepfer powers Boston into lead

[WPSL ELITE] Katie Schoepfer scored a hat trick to give the Boston Breakers a 3-2 win over the Western New York Flash before a sold-out crowd of 2,342 at Dilboy Stadium and open up a six-point lead at the top of the WPSL Elite League.

Schoepfer also had the eventual gamewinner as the Breakers downed the New York Fury, 2-1, in the Fury’s home opener at Hofstra University on Wednesday. Australian international Tameka Butt also scored for Boston.

-- The Chicago Red Stars improved their record to 2-0-0 with a 2-0 win over winless FC Indiana fell to 0-4 on the season. The Red Stars, the only team in the WPSL Elite that has not given up a goal this season, got goals from Lauren Fowlkes and Lori Chalupny.

-- The New England Mutiny's Tony Horta has taken a leave of absence for personal reasons. Saint Joseph College coach Chris Legates has been named the interim head coach in his place.
