Torres on target for Spain

Fernando Torres celebrated his return to the Spanish national team with a goal as the World Cup and European champion beat South Korea, 4-1, in a friendly Wednesday. Xabi Alonso, Santi Cazorla and Alvaro Negredo also scored as Spain continued its preparations for the European Championships that begin next week, by winning comfortably in Bern, Switzerland.

Fresh from capturing the Champions League title with Chelsea, Torres' fortunes appear to be turning after a campaign in which he scored just 11 goals and was dropped from the Spain squad in February.

Coach Vicente Del Bosque has named him to the 23-man squad that will travel to Poland next week and it was he who got the opening goal for Spain, which has yet to incorporate players from Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, finalists in the Copa del Rey played last week.

"I'm feeling good at the moment both physically and mentally. Training is going well and now I'm looking forward to the competition. Sometimes when you are not involved and things are not going well it helps you to see the bigger picture and evaluate your position," said Torres. "It is a reward for me to be here and I am going to take the opportunity and try and make the most of it. It has been a difficult time but hopefully that is now in the past."
