More Italy injury worries

[EURO 2012 COUNTDOWN] Italy is hopeful young star Mario Balotelli will be fit for the Azzurri's Group C opener against defending champion Spain at Euro 2012  on Sunday.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said the controversial Balotelli should be fit for the game even though he injured his abductor muscle during training on Monday.

Right back Christian Maggio is suffering from the same injury, and defender Andrea Barzagli could yet be ruled out of the tournament because of a calf problem.

Playing without key players Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Andriy Voronin, co-host Ukraine suffered to its second loss in less than a week as it fell to Turkey, 2-0, in a warm-up game on Tuesday.

France ran wild against Estonia as the Bleus won, 4-0. Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema set up each other for goals, while Benzema added a second of his own with a clinical blast from the edge of the penalty area.

Italy should drop Balotelli like a load of bricks. We've seen enough of his eternal petulance. More importantly, Italy needs to get its whole house in order. There is nothing that can be trusted coming out of Italian soccer / calcio today. Nothing. (And it has already been like this for several decades.) It is a shame that UEFA doesn't put teeth into its actions. I am sure it would be more than justified right now to drop Italy from the tournament and insert the next best team. Only then, due to rightful punishment and obvious embarrassment, will the people of Italy rise up to undo the undoing of their famed game in Italia. The entire game itself is in disrepute in Italy.
