[WPSL ELITE] The Chicago Red Stars beat the New York Fever, 2-1, and ASA Chesapeake Charge, 5-0, to up their WPSL Elite record to 5-0-0. The Red Stars trail the
first-place Boston Breakers, who have played two more games, by three points.
In the win over New York, former Notre Dame stars Michele
Weissenhofer and Lauren Fowlkes teamed up to feed Alyssa Mautz for the first goal, and Weissenhofer took
advantage of an errant goal kick to put the Red Stars up 2-0. A late goal by Fury forward Claire Zimmeck was the first Chicago has allowed in five games.
Chicago got a hat trick from Fowlkes in the win over the visiting Charge. Lori Chalupny and newcomer Zoey Goralski also scored for the Red Stars.
-- Boston won for the sixth time in seven games when it edged the winless Philadelphia Fever, 1-0. The
Fever held league-leading scorer Katie Schoepfer (8 goals, 1 assist) in check but could not stop Australian international Kyah
Simon, who scored the lone goal.
