Toronto FC's trip to Houston for Paul Mariner's first match in charge of the hapless MLS club could not have been any worse. First, the Reds fell to the
Dynamo, 2-0, then three players -- Chilean Miguel Aceval, Dutchman Nick Soolsma and American Luis Silva -- were jailed for public intoxication overnight following an early-morning incident at Club Escobar.
"There was a large disturbance outside the club," a Houston
Police spokesperson told the Sun. "Our officers tried to disperse the fight at which time they refused to leave and then began to have verbal altercations with the officers."
According to
the Houston Police, Silva, Aceval and Soolsma were given multiple opportunities to walk away from the situation before officers attempted to handcuff one of the players.
"One of them ran
and so the officer ran and the officer took him into custody," the spokesperson said.
