German car workers get game break

Several million German automobile workers have permission to leave work early on Friday to watch Germany take on Greece in the Euro 2012 quarterfinals.

About 3.4 million employees at Volkswagen may leave their offices and production lines early to get home for kickoff.

Against the turbulent backdrop of the eurozone's debt crisis, the game in Poland has special resonance, pitting Europe's most troubled economy, Greece, against the bloc's effective paymaster.

Opel said the evening shift at its main factory in Ruesselsheim would end two hours early, at 7:00 p.m. local time.
