Zinedine Zidane will probably coach the French national team some day, says the president of the national soccer federation (FFF), but it won't happen anytime soon. The resignation of Laurent Blanc following its elimination in the quarterfinals of the European Championship has sparked speculation of a successor, with Didier Deschamps the favorite.

Zidane, currently sporting director at Real Madrid, as a player led the national teams that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. He is studying for a degree in sports management and FFF head Noel Le Graet believes the 40-year-old will coach Les Bleus someday.

"It's great that Zinedine Zidane has expressed a desire to work closely with the French national team in future and, if it is not possible right now, he dreams of coaching the national team in 10 years time," said Le Graet.

In the meantime, Blanc's decision not to sign a new contract has left the FFF with a vacancy to fill ahead. Deschamps is available after leaving his post at Marseille Monday.
