[ELITE EIGHT: #3 Maryland] Last season was a tale of two halves for Maryland. Unbeaten through 12 games, the Terrapins won only one of their last five games and
finished with a 14-4-3 record. The bad news is that Maryland's top scorer Casey Townsend (17 goals) graduated. The good news is that the other 10 starters in
its 4-2 loss to Louisville in the third round of the NCAA Tournament are back.
"I really like this team," Terrapins coach Sasho Cirovski says. "This is going to be a very possession-oriented, very attractive-playing team."
RETURNEES. Five players who earned all-ACC first- or second-team honors are back: defenders Taylor Kemp and London Woodberry, midfielders John Stertzer and Sunny Lane and forward Patrick Mullins, whom Cirovski is looking to carry some of scoring load left by Townsend. "He is no doubt capable of doing so," said the Maryland coach.
NEWCOMERS. Schillo Tshuma, the latest player to enter the college ranks from Zimbabwe via Virginia's Episcopal High School, started up front in preseason. Mikey Ambrose, who captained the FC Dallas U-17/18 academy team, should start.
