[SAN DIEGO-TEXAS A&M]Emily Dillon's goal in the 79th minute gave San Diego a 1-0 win over No. 15 Texas A&M, the
Toreros' first win of the 2012 season after two losses on the opening weekend of the season.
The Toreros’ first shot of the match came with just over 12 minutes left in regulation,
and flew wide of the frame. Only one minute later, Lexi Deol sent Dillon a long ball that she then controlled through the A&M defense and went one-on-one
with Aggie goalkeeper Jordan Day before scoring from outside the six-yard box. USD never got another look at the goal.
“Obviously,
we’re disappointed,” Aggies coach G Guerrieri said. “We didn’t put in the kind of effort we needed. Even though we outshoot them 10-2,
we take 10 shots and we only get two on goal, which is unacceptable. I thought that San Diego played harder than we did, especially in the middle part and it paid off for them. They were able to keep
us off balance. They get the one break; I think they took their first shot just a minute before they took their second shot. We didn’t pick it up until we went down a goal and that’s
unacceptable from our side. It’s something that we’ve got to correct internally immediately.”
Freshman goalkeeper McKenna Tollack
notched her first shutout as she recorded two saves for San Diego.
